Amy Gough

'I am a Bristol based artist and my work usually takes the form of moving image. It often references different media formats and their languages to produce a mutated, semi-recognisable form that doesn’t really fulfil any of the designed purposes. My work tends to revolve around interactions between nostalgia, memory and mediated relationships with objects and people never encountered first hand.

For this project I wanted to take hold of the familiar features of this tool - with its unknown purpose and ambiguous form - placing it in the context of a shopping channel investigation, in which the host is simultaneously discovering it for the first time and having to present it as a desirable item. After receiving the tool as an obj. file I was interested in its translation from physical original to 3D scan, to handmade replica based on the digital model and sculpted by hand and eye.'
