Rung @ Test Space, Spike Island
6 to 21 October 2018
Think of RUNG as The Royal Variety Performances meets the RA Summer Show, but instead of circus performers and Grayson Perry expect vampires, digital sculpture, no one famous (yet) and carnivalesque poetic performance.
An exhibition featuring artists from RUNG (issue 1).
Over 40 artists were included in the first issue, and its curators Frances Kelly and Isobel Emberson have selected five for this Test Space exhibition: Dinosaur Kilby, Karl Russell Vickers, Harrie Fuller, Kane Cottrell and Buoys Buoys Buoys (AKA John Jones). The works range from collage, performance, sculpture to digital animation.
Transmutation & Folklore workshop
Performance artist John Jones presents the opportunity to translate folkloric legends of change into kinetic masks and totems that communicate their own transformative narratives.
With provided textual sources and materials, this session will focus on taking written myths and developing them into playful or ritualistic items that can twist, shimmer, flap, clap, turn, warp, break, peel, bend, and toot ancient stories in a way (probably) never done before, concluding in a mini-exhibition carnival of the objects and the chance to retell your mythology through transformation.
